Sonja was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  She studied commercial and fine art and obtained a mechanical drafting degree at Utah State University in Logan, Utah and returned to Idaho Falls where she lives with her husband, daughter, pug and too many cats!  She worked as an architectural draftsman for 25+ years and is currently busy creating art and is also a jewelry craftsman.  She exhibits mainly in the Idaho Falls area.  Her work has been juried 4 consecutive years into the statewide show, Idaho Paints Idaho, where she also won an award in 2007 and the I.F. Arts Council Juried Member Show for the last 3 years.  Sonja is a board member of the Idaho Falls CPSA District Chapter 217, is a museum artist member of the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho and is a member of the Idaho Falls Arts Council.  She has taken multiple colored pencil workshops from some of her cp "idols" and hopes to participate in many more.

Sonja has always loved to draw and grew up learning from her artist mother.  She was immediately drawn to colored pencils as a medium as she prefers pencil to the paintbrush.  She has worked with them since the mid - 80's and loves the control and detail that colored pencils provide.  Sonja loves to paint a variety of subjects - flowers, portraits, animals (mainly cats) and the landscapes of her beautiful region.  She strives to capture the beautiful effects of sunlight on her subjects.
